Purpose
This study explored the relationships of maturity fears and appearance interest(interest in appearance, interest in weight) with self-concept among girls with precocious puberty.
Methods
The participants for this study were 120 elementary school students (8 to 10 years old) and their parents from two hospitals located in Chungcheong Province. Data were collected from January to February 2019 using self-reported questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, the Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis in SPSS for Windows version 23.0.
Results
Statistically significant negative correlations were found between self-concept and maturity fears (r=-.34, p<.001) and interest in weight (r=-.29, p=.001). Maturity fears were identified as a factor affecting the self-concept of girls with precocious puberty (β=-.34, p<.001). This variable explained 11.5% of the variance in the self-concept of girls who experienced precocious puberty.
Conclusion
This study confirmed that maturity fears had a major influence on self-concept in girls with precocious puberty. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the development of a psychosocial nursing intervention program for girls who experience precocious puberty.

Influence of Achievement Motivation and Parent-Child Relationship on Ego Identity in Korean Nursing Students
Hyun Young Koo
Child Health Nurs Res 2018;24(1):48-57.   Published online January 31, 2018
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4094/chnr.2018.24.1.48
Purpose
This study was conducted to characterize the influence of achievement motivation and the parent-child relationship on ego identity in Korean nursing students.
Methods
The participants were 217 Korean nursing students in the first and fourth year of university. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires composed of items assessing ego identity, achievement motivation, the parent-child relationship, and demographic characteristics. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, the x2 test, and multinomial logistic regression analysis.
Results
Ego identity was related to achievement motivation; moreover, the achievement motivation of students with moratorium and achieved identity status was significantly higher than that of students with low-profile moratorium and diffused identity statuses. Ego identity was not related to the mother-child relationship, but the father-child relationship of students in foreclosure was significantly higher than that of students with diffused identity status. The factors influencing achieved identity compared to diffused identity were achievement motivation, year in school, satisfaction with school, and having religious beliefs.
Conclusion
These findings indicate that nursing students’ ego identity attainment was more influenced by achievement motivation than by the parent-child relationship. It emphasizes that highly motivated students can develop their own identities regardless of the parent-child relationship.

Young Eun Lee, Eunyoung Kim, Sun Young Park
Child Health Nurs Res 2017;23(3):385-393.   Published online July 31, 2017
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4094/chnr.2017.23.3.385
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting resilience in nursing students.
Methods
A survey was conducted with 200 nursing students at a college and a university in P city and K city. Data were collected from March 1 to 20, 2017, and analyzed with SPSS PASW 22.0.
Results
In the hierarchical analysis, factors affecting resilience were emotional intelligence (β=.39, p<.001), psychological well-being (β=.31, p<.001), and self-esteem (β=.16, p=.010). The variable that had the highest impact was emotional intelligence and the explanation power of the regression model was 65%(F=34.40 p<.001).
Conclusion
The findings of this study indicate that emotional intelligence, psychological well-being, and self-esteem are essential for resilience in nursing students. Thus, enhancing emotional intelligence and psychological well-being would be an effective strategy to improve resilience in nursing students.

Relationship Between Self-Esteem and Sexual Attitude in Healthcare College Students
Min Suk Im, Hye Ri Yun, Hye Ji Sin, Young Eun Lee
Child Health Nurs Res 2016;22(3):227-235.   Published online July 31, 2016
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4094/chnr.2016.22.3.227
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between self-esteem and sexual attitude in healthcare college students, and also to provide a basis for sexual health education programs to help establish healthy sexual attitudes.
Methods
A survey was conducted with 218 unmarried students attending the healthcare colleges in B and U cities. Data were collected from October 15 to November 10, 2015 and analyzed using Stepwise multiple regression with SPSS PASW 18.0.
Results
Mean score for self-esteem was 3.23±0.46 out of 5 and sexual attitude 2.64 ± 0.54 out of 5. Self-esteem and sexual attitude had a negative correlation (r = -.169, p = .012). Among sub-variables of sexual attitude, negative correlations were found between self-esteem and premarital chastity (r = -.207, p = .002), and between self-esteem and homosexual attitudes (r = -.167, p = .013). There were statistically significant differences in sexual attitude according to perceived intimacy with mother (β = -.228, p < .001), year in college (β = .135, p = .047), major (β = .148, p = .023), religion (β = -2.429, p = .016), and homosexual tendencies (β = .139, p = .037). These factors explained 14.6% of the variance in sexual attitude.
Conclusion
Findings demonstrate the importance of self-esteem for sexual attitudes. This finding should be used in the development of healthcare college students, promotion programs to enhance healthy sexual attitudes.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of self-differentiation, family function and mental health among adolescents.
METHODS
The data were collected from 967 adolescents and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS program.
RESULTS
Mental health differed according to grades, sibling position, father's education and mother's education. Self-differentiation and family function had a significant negative correlation with mental health. Multiple regression analysis showed recognition.emotional function, emotional cutoff and family projection as influencing self-differentiation, Grades, affective responsiveness in family function, and sibling position explained 20.8% of the total variance in mental health.
CONCLUSION
The findings show that self-differentiation and family function influence mental health, indicating a need to develop nursing intervention programs to enhance adolescents' mental health and prevent negative outcomes. For these programs, the family must be included.

Psychometrics of Children's Health Locus of Control Scale for Korean Children.
Hee Sun Shin, Yun Jung
Korean J Child Health Nurs 1998;4(1):105-115.
The purpose of the study was to test the reliability and validity of the Korean version of Children's Health Locus of Control Scale(CHLC), an instrument designed to measure health locus of control in children aged 7 to 12. The scale was administered to 467 children in grades 4 to 6, enrolled in 2 elementary schools located in city. The mean age of the subject was 10.03(SD=1.33). The findings were as follows: 1. Cronbach alpha coefficient for internal consistency was .69 for the total, and .67, .65, and .56 on the respective subscales. 2. Construct validity was supported through factorial isolation of three theory consistent subscales: internal, chance, and powerful others. Two items did not fit well with the originally developed subscale. The total percent of variance explained by 3 factors was 34.5%. The result of the factor analysis according to Kaiser's criterion revealed that the scale was consisted of 5 factors. But, The items of the subscales were rather inconsistent with the dimensions of the locus of control concept. 3. There were significant differences according to parent's educational level and occupation, and birth order on the scores of the CHLC. There were no significant differences according to grade level and sex. 4. The score of the CHLC was significantly correlated with the self concept of the children(r=.14, p<.001). The result indicated that the Korean version of Children's Health Locus of Control Scale was valid and reliable in measuring health locus of control concept in children, even though further research is required to reconfirm and increase the reliability of the instrument. CHLC could be used for study explaining the health related behavior of the children and research project to health education program.
